Puspakom's monopoly may be removed

KUALA LUMPUR: Puspakom may no longer hold the exclusive rights to inspect and certify commercial vehicles.
Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said he was considering requests from various quarters, including from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat MPs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to allow other companies to compete with Puspakom.
"We are considering this issue, and we have to look into the current concession agreement and also the negotiations with Puspakom that were conducted before I took office. We have to see if we are bound by any agreements," he said.
However, Ong would not be drawn into revealing when the study on the proposal will be completed or when a decision will be made.
"So far, there are no business proposals yet. Just the proposal to remove Puspakom's exclusivity," he said.
On the swoop by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) on Puspakom employees, Ong said this had affected the company's capacity and services, and he had instructed Puspakom's management to act swiftly to overcome the problem.
He said he had also asked the Road Safety Department and the Road Transport Department to help identify the vehicles which had supposedly been passed by corrupted staff.
"We need to identify the vehicles and re-inspect them. Otherwise, this might pose a risk to road safety," he said Saturday after launching a Chinese art painting and calligraphy exhibition at Nirvana Memorial Centre.
The exhibition will be open from 10am to 6pm from Aug 30 to Sept 3.

PLAN TO ABOLISH ROAD TAX

Wednesday June 18, 2008

Plan to abolish road tax eventually
PETALING JAYA: Road tax will be reduced gradually and abolished.
Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said the ministry was studying the possibility of abolishing road tax.
“I will bring the issue to the Cabinet, and if they agree, private vehicles will be the first to benefit,” he said.
Ong said the rebates given out in lieu of the fuel price increase was not enough to ease the people’s burden in the long term.
On June 4, the Government announced a RM200 reduction in road tax for private vehicles above 2000cc and RM50 for private motorcycles above 250cc.
Also announced were rebates of RM625 for private vehicles of 2000cc and below, and private pick-up trucks and jeeps with an engine capacity of 2500cc and below.
Rebates of RM150 will be given to private motorcycles with an engine capacity of 250cc and below.

Here in my home.

Here in my Home.
A gift to the nation.

"From those who love Malaysia to those who feel the Same"

HERE IN MY HOME
Verse 1
Hold on brother hold on
The road is long. We’re on stony ground
But I’m strong. You ain’t heavy
Verse 2
Oh there’s a misspoken truth that lies
Colors don’t bind, oh no.
What do they know? They speak falsely.
Chorus
Here in my home
I’ll tell you what its all about
There’s just one hope here in my heart
One love undivided
That’s what it’s all about
Please won’t you fall in one by one by one with me?
Verse 3
Push back sister won’t you push back?
Love won’t wait. Just keep pushing on.
Yes I’m strong. You ain’t heavy.
Verse 4
Oh don’t you worry about that…
What we have shadows can’t deny
Don’t you know it’s now or never?
